Rise of the ACCA
19/02/2010
The top 60 chartered accountancy firms seem to be falling in love with the ACCA qualification. Recent research from Accountancy magazine discovered that for many firms the ACCA trainee is just what they want.
Of the 11,853 trainees hired in 2009 some 7,755 (65%) were with the ICAEW, 2,250 were contracted to ICAS and 1,547 were ACCAs. A further 245 were CIMA PQs and 56 CIPFA. At PwC, Deloitte and KPMG the ICAEW qualification still rules. At Ernst & Young, however, while it hired 960 ICAS trainees in 2009 it also signed up 305 ACCA PQs (that’s some 22% of the intake).
The ACCA is even bigger into top 20 firms RSM Bentley Jennison and the Haines Watts Group. The ACCA intake in these top firms was over 45%.
Neil Stevenson, director of brands, told PQ magazine: “ACCA is delighted to see that accounting firms are increasingly seeing our qualification and its flexible delivery as an important part of their trainee development programmes.”
